Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Wins First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial title after the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his first tour title, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
